Diana Guarani by Agustin Barrios Mangore (Guitar Tab)

Diana Guarani by Agustin Barrios Mangore (1885-1944)

Agustin Barrios Mangore
Diana Guarani was one of Barrios’ most popular works with which he used to close his concerts. It is essentially a theme and variations on the Paraguayan song “Campamento Cerro Leon” (Leon Hill Camp), a melody that became popular during the years that Paraguay was engaged in the War of the Triple Alliance (1865-1870) in which Paraguay fought against the combined forced of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay and was roundly defeated, losing a great percentage of its male populace in the tragic outcome of the conflict, “Campamento Cerro Leon” is based on a bugle call which was sounded before battle, calling the troops to defend the homeland. This theme is heard in measure 10 through 17.
