Maria (Gavota) by Francisco Tarrega (Guitar Tab)

Maria (Gavota) by Francisco Tarrega

Francisco Tarrega
Tárrega is considered to have laid the foundations for 20th century classical guitar and for increasing interest in the guitar as a recital instrument. Tárrega preferred small intimate performances over the concert stage. Some believe this was because he played without the nails needed for volume. Others say this was related to his childhood trauma.

Notes
This piece is 2/4. Tricky piece. Like all of Tarrega’s work, this piece is fairly short spanning less than 1 and half minute. A lot of techniques are introduced. Here’s a general run down of the piece. Left fingering is important to set up the next chord. This sound has so many slides, i lost count. slides-using different fingers.

Guitar Demo (Pepe Romero)

Bar[19]+[22] scale runs across the strings.

The latter part is much harder…
Bar[33]-[35] series of barred chords pull off. (Barring half step up each time)
Bar[35],[40],[43] harmonics at the end of each phrase
Bar[35]-[38] is the most difficult passage for me. I tab it using a cutaway. I add the alternative at bottom of tab.
Bar[46]-[47] pizzicato at the end (heel of thumb on string, pluck with thumb). Going up the scale, highest note reaches the 18th fret.
